Craftsman riding lawn tractor 917.270532 Shifting Issues

I have recently changed the Motion belt to specs., using the proper size as called for in the manual.
The Mower seems to have a ton on resistance when shifting into gear...you can hold it in gear but then it sticks and you need to cut the motor to stop...
Any ideas here?

Sounds like the belt is too tight or routed wrong. Did you use an original belt, or something else? The belt may be on the wrong side of a guide.

I agree, very easy to install them wrong.
One quick check is to make sure any flat pullys are on the back side of the belt, the Vee's go on the tapered side of the pulley.
