Craftsmen 18.5 HP Tractor Runs Wide Open

Holy smokes...my Sears tractor starts fine....then proceeds to rev full throttle, no matter where the throttle is set...even at idle! Moving the throttle has no effect, even though you can see that it is moving when actuated. What causes this mystery? Perhaps I need to wash down any debrie from the engine? Glad I was able to cut the grass before it started:

When you said "it is moving" what is moving? When you move the throttle lever can you see the throttle arm on carburetor move?

Yes...the cable is hooked up and you can see the throttle move when you move the lever from idle to choke and back...but when you start the engine...it revs up to max rpms no matter where the throttle is set...weird!

Usually this is because the little screws that hold the throttle valve to the shaft in the carburetor have come out and let the valve open wide.
