Unhappy Craftsman Model 917.272281 Blades will not engage

I have a Craftsman 22 HP, 42" Rider, I was cutting and I guess the grass was too tall and the blades jammed, I have cleared the blades and housing, all the belts appear to be in place. When I engage the blade control I get sparks from the clutch under the engine, and I get power draw down on the engine, Any ideas that do not involve professional repair?? On another site it was suggested that adjusting the clutch by tightening the adjusting screws might work, but the result is the same.

Look under there and see what's sparking... is the drag link for the steering rubbing against the clutch pulley? Is the belt wrapped up causing the belt guide to rub the pulley?

Sounds like maybe the bearings in the clutch have gone bad.
