Lawnmower engine curiosity
I kept hearing a ting sound, when I pulled the cord slowly, so my curiosity got the best of my (along with wondering could it be fixed). Took the shroud off the engine, and slowly spun it by hand. I could see this metal tab being pulled in magnetically at a certain spot on the motor. What it the purpose of it, and why does only the right side make contact. (See pic below please).

It's just a metal shield/cover. Apparently it's bent just enough to touch when the magnet on the flywheel pulls on it. No concern, bend it back out enough so that it doesn't rub and still fits in its' spot.
