Push Mower: Sucked in flap, white smoke, won't stay running!
Style: Push mower
Brand: Craftsman
Engine: 190 cc Briggs and Stratton
Bought: May 2013
Link: Craftsman 190cc Low Wheel Rear Bag Push Mower: Easy Mowing At Sears
Help needed before I run my mower to the repair shop:
So my brother was cutting the lawn the other day, and somehow in the process of backing the mower up, the flap on the back of the mower got sucked into the blade. He said right after the engine stopped. He proceeded to remove the chewed up flap from the blade and restarted the mower. Upon restart, a bunch of white smoke pushed out of the left side of the engine and smelled of burnt rubber. The smoke cleared and the mower continued to run for the next 10 minutes, then died. Now, the mower has trouble starting, and when it does, it dies within seconds. During those brief starts, I notice more white smoke coming out the side and it smells of gas.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? I tried putting in new gas, starting without the fuel cap, checked the spark plug (did not replace). I wouldn’t think sucking up the flap alone would result in much damage, but who knows. Thanks in advance!

when that flap got sucked in you could have sheared the flywheel key or at least bent it. Doubtful from that flap that the crankshaft is bent but I would check that key first.

When he tilted the mower to remove the flap, if he tilted it with the carb down the air filter could have gotten saturated with gas and oil, which is flooding the engine, try removing the air filter to see it it runs ok, if so just replace it. Have a good one. Geo
