Deere STX38 Throttle Won't Stay at full

I have a Deere STX38 (1996) with a Kohler 13hp. When I throttle up, the throttle handle won't stay at full. It slowly backs down to about 1/2. I constantly have to keep pushing it back up. I checked the springs, cable, etc and everything looks ok. Any help is appreciated.

Sure the clamp that holds the sheathing on the cable to the shroud is not loose?

Sounds like the cable has worn itself sloppy loose. A new throttle cable should fix it.

Thanks

Thanks. I'll replace the cable and see what happens. Appreciate your timely feedback.
