Generac w. Tecumseh 10 hoss
I was given a Generator with a Tecumseh 10 hp pull-start engine. The thing was in a shed for two years. I've drained the water from the tank and lines, pulled the carb
B4 I buy a new one or rehab it, or quit B4 this project becomes my personal Iraq! There is no spark at the plug, which is clean,
and looks like it was installed brand new B4 the gen was stuck away in a shed.
Assuming a good plug, what's the next step. The code on the housing shows it was made in '95. Is getting into this thing advisable, seeing it's nigh 20 years old?
In truth, I've gotten suggestions to either fix it, have it fixed at a shop, or dump it.
I would like to get it running, just for braggin' rights, though.
Thanks up front

Generally I don't think proper working and valuable things are stuck in a shed to rust. So, if you come across a great deal and it's been sitting for years... there is a reason. Since it was given to you spending a bit of money and labor is not out of the question.
A gunked-up carburetor is the most likely problem but it sounds like you might have bad coil or something as simple as a kill switch that's shorting out. I would go through what you can without buying parts. Disconnect the kill wire from the coil and see if you get spark. Then move on to the carburetor. I assume it will need disassembling and cleaning but you could get lucky.

Thank you, Pilot Dane
Where is the coil, behind the pull-start mechanism?
I think you are right, this thing is at least worth some time and effort.
Thanks, again
