Portable gas generator

Need any advive on trying to solve this problem.
Have a 10 horse power generator with Briggs & Stratton motor only way i can start it is pour a little gas in plug hole or take breather off & pour a little gas in it.It will start on first pull but it will ony run about 5 to 10 seconds and will shut off & will not offer to crank untill i do the above steps over again.Gas is good and plug is good.
I would greatly appreciate any advice on solving this problem.

I'm betting it went unused for a long time with gas left in it. Start by removing the carburetor, disassemble it and give it a thorough cleaning.

Going to have to remove and disassemble the carburetor and clean it with real carburetor cleaner.
If there's a fuel filter change it, if not add one.
When your ready to shut down the generator do not hit the switch, shut the fuel off instead and just let it run of fuel.
Try and find some place that sells nonethanol fuel. Ethanol destroys fuel lines and carburetors.
Any marina will have it, ask your local power equipment store where to get it.
You can also use an additive that helps counter act the effects of it.
