Craftsman pressure washer engine not turning

Hello all. So my pressure washer 3000 psi, began to lose pressure. I decided to take apart the pressure pump and found the problem. With pump removed I attempted to turn the engine with the pull start and it won't go. Just feels as if it's stuck. The engine was working just fine before I removed the pump. Is this normal because the pump is not installed or should the engine turn without pump installed? Just trying to figure out if another issue became present as I removed the pump which required for me to have the engine on its side while pump was removed. Any info appreciated. Thanks

If you put the engine on it's side the cylinder probably filled with oil, remove the spark plug then try to turn the engine, be prepared for a mess if the cylinder is full of oil, any time you tilt a 4-cycle engine the carb should be up. Have a good one. Geo
