Toro Personal Pace 22in recycler transmission problems

Replaced the tranny and now the mower only runs backward. Looking at the right axle with wheel removed the axle is turning in a clockwise direction (towards front of the mower.) This then causes the wheels to run opposite (towards the rear of the mower.) Thoughts?

What part number is your new tranny?

Your plight reminds me of when I once installed an automotive engine in an inboard-outboard, and the boat ran fine . . . . in reverse. Too bad we had a crowd watching for our initial launch. We had to obtain a reversed propeller made special for this purpose, because marine engines turn counter-clockwise.

Do you think you could twist the belt to reverse direction on the drive pulley . . . . or install an idler pulley ?

If this mower is up off the ground, then it's just a case of the wheel with the least resistance being the one that is turning through the differential, and that will be corrected when both wheels are on the ground.

Are both wheels turning backwards or just the one?

Problem solved... I think. They sold me the wrong tranny. One number difference in part no.'s Apparently the one I received was for front wheel drive... needed rear wheel drive. Know more when the new one arrives...

I was going to say it sounds like you got one for front wheel drive (that's why I asked for the part number on your new tranny), but you said the tranny had the correct part number ....?

The invoice had the correct number, but when I turned the mower over and looked at the tranny it had the wrong number. Glad to get it figured out, but a little ticked off that I have gone to all this trouble because someone can't read. Let's just hope this fixes the problem!
