Advice on buying used Craftsman wood chipper
Going to look at an older Craftsman 5hp wood chipper shredder and hoping I can get some advice on what to look out for.
Unit has the limb feed on same side as the brush. Does that mean anything good or bad?
Impeller is no longer available from Sears. Is that only for flywheel support or does that do the cutting/chipping... does anyone know?
I will take a 2" limb with me to try out. Would I expect that to go in quickly or inch by inch on a 5hp model?
Thanks!
BTW: Does anyone know who made the chippers for Sears?

A 2" limb won't generally go through very fast. The impeller has the cutters on it for the chipping. The limb feed location is common. I think a few different companies made chippers for sears over the years. Take a flashlight to shine down the chute to view the cutters and internals to be sure they aren't banged up badly, wrapped up with rope etc...

Looking at the parts diagram on he Sears site, this model has a single shredding blade and then what looks to be three fins on the impeller... which is no longer made.
Does the shredder blade only do the brush and leave the limbs to the fins on the impeller?
