Craftsman garden tractor delayed drive

917.27224 DLT 2000 20hp Kohler.

I need to depress the forwRd or reverse about twenty times before it starts to move then a few more times before it takes off like normal. What's up doc?

Does it make noise when it does this? It could be a loose belt, air in the pump, or maybe a sticking brake.
