Craftsman Weedwacker pull-cord binds up

I have a Craftsman 33cc/2.0 cu. in. 2 Cycle Gasoline Weed Wacker. It is equipped with Sim-pul Technology for easy starts. It worked fine for a while but then the pull cord wouldn't retract and bound up. I disassembled the pull cord assembly and loosened the tension so that it retracted fine.....until it was reassembled, then it bound up again. I don't know if something is broken or I reassembled it incorrectly. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....thanks

There is a spring between the rope spool and the actual part that turns the engine. It has ends that poke through holes in those pieces. Usually the spring end gets bent and the holes get elongated, causing your problem. The spring gets wedged between the two pieces.
