Just replaced a broken pto switch on my deere f525. Now when you start it and release the brake or engage the pto, it dies?

Sounds like your seat switch came unplugged.

The seat switch was bypassed when I bought it several years ago?

Sure sounds like something in the seat switch circuit is not working properly. Put an inline spark tester on one of the plug wires and see if it quits sparking when it dies.
