poulan pro riding mower

the blade clutch cable on our mower has gotten so hot that it has melted the plastic coating and has melted into the top of the gas tank. there are no wires attached to this cable and we can't figure out why it is getting hot. it's a poulan pro PB195H46YT. we have also had to replace the solenoid and starter on this mower. I can only assume it's an electrical issue, but can't pinpoint where.

A good possibility is the battery ground to frame wire is not functioning so the blade clutch cable is carrying the electrical current and overheating.
Check all connections from battery ground post to frame and to engine. Most likely you will find your problem there.

I agree, check your negative cable where it connects to the frame, clean and tighten it, along with the smaller ground wires that mount to the frame. There may have been one or more that mounted at the solenoid bolts as well... maybe they got left off.

thank you for your help! found a bare wire from the hours clock that had been crimped by the blade engagement lever.
