Cool yard machine riding lawnmower 42" cut 17.5 hp

i have a yard machine riding lawnmower. The problem is that every time i shut it off the engine backfires. Any ideas. Tks, ray

Try running the mower at idle for a minute or so before shutting it off. Have a good one. Geo

If it has an anti backfire solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor, it may need cleaning or replacing. Doing as geogrubb suggests usually works too.
