Craftsman Lawn Tractor Clutch / Transmission Issues

Good day all,

I have an older 12.5 HP Craftsman Lawn Tractor. Model number 944.605021

Just recently I was mowing my lawn and the tractor stopped moving, I shut it down and looked underneath to find the drive train belt completely snapped. I purchased another one and installed it on the tractor as per the manual. It moved forward just fine, however, it will not stop when pressing on the brake and it will not let me change gears/speeds. However, when I shut down the tractor and have someone push me while driving, I can engage the brake and it works fine, I can also change the gear/speed stick... but when it is running, neither works.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like you might have put a generic belt on it... maybe let the sales person talk you into a shorter one, claiming the old one "stretched"? Either that, or the belt is over one of the belt guides on one of the pulleys, instead of between it and the pulley.
