Riding lawnmower

I have a 90's model Murray 42inch cutting deck and a 15.5 hp BS motor. It has been working great until recently. I've noticed the past few times using it that it was jerking a little but now it only moves forward in the low gears. If I try any faster speeds my lawnmower just sits there. But if I move the gear shifter back to the 1 or 2 position it begins to move again at a slow speed. Also when I turn a tight corner in the slower speeds it starts jerking a little.

Welcome to the forums! Aside from transmission problems, have you checked the idler pulley on the drive belt? May have too much slack, or a worn/stretched belt.
