Craftsman 4 cycle trimmer

Customer wanted me to repair the starter housing on this trimmer I took it apart ,the rope will retract back in the housing. The spring is not broken. The starter dogs seem loose, the starter housing, will not catch the dogs,to start the engine. The parts list on sears shows that I have to by the whole engine to replace the starter dogs. The model number 316.731700 I appreciate your help. The customer wants the trimmer repaired.

Thanks,
Jerry

It would just be the #3 for $27.74. Probably plus shipping. Those dogs are usually a little loose, though to be able to work. They often have a little spring to return them out of the drive gearing. When you pull the starting rope they fly out with centrifugal force and engage. There can be different designs, I'm sure.
