Briggs engine with plastic flywheel ring gear

Have Briggs 28n707-0160-01 engine on a Craftsman rider in the shop. It has a plastic flywheel ring gear that is destroyed. The starter has a steel gear. Got a used flywheel off ebay with an aluminum ring gear. Do I have to change the starter gear to plastic or will the steel gear be ok. Thanks

Someone has done some messing around, the steel gear should never have been with the plastic gear. It will also not work with the aluminum gear on the flywheel. You'll need to switch your starter gear to plastic to work with the aluminum ring gear.

Thanks Cheese. I didn't think the aluminum/steel was going to work but I thought I would still ask.
