Fuel line won't fit on tank fitting

Hi All - Easy question that I assume there is a trick for. The fuel line for my generator at the tank end was cracked. So i removed it and cut it before the crack. Now i need to put it back on the piece that goes into the tank.

But for the life of me i can't get that sucker back on the metal nipple piece. I've tried to use a lighter to soften the line and that didn't seem to do much.

Is there a trick to doing this? More heat then a lighter perhaps...

The line has probably hardened up and won't flex enough. You might try a little WD40 or similar sprayed/rubbed on the nipple.

I'd probably replace the whole line if possible.
