Lawnmower engine problem?

Hi, I have a lawntractor that I use to cut my lawn. It is of the ARIENS Lawn Tractor- Ariens 42 in 17.5 HP 6-speed Riding Lawn Mower. Today I was cutting my grass and the gas ran out. I got some gas and replenished the gas tank in the mower. While I was refilling the gas, I accidentally moved the cap for the oil. It didn't move much so I lightly screwed it back on. Now with a fresh tank of gas, I proceeded to cut my grass. I turned on the mower for about 30 seconds and was going to cut the grass, until I saw a little smoke come out of the bottom of the engine. I completely turned off the mower withing those 30 seconds and checked what was under the hood. Little did I know, I loosened the oil too much and the oil was shaking and spewing out everywhere. The oil is a light yellow and a little thicker consistency than baby oil. Either way, oil got all over the place under the shell of the mower that covers the engine part.
I examined the cap for the oil and noticed it was much looser. and that oil had been flinging out of it. I replaced the oil that flew out and tried turning the mower back on. It didn't turn on. ANY idea what has happened and if it's fixable? I literally just bought the mower a month ago. it's brand new. I didn't hear any strange popping noises or the machine blowing up internally. I turned it off and then it wouldn't turn on after.
Thanks

What exactly does "didn't turn on" mean? The fussy little details (exactly what you did and exactly what happened) are important.

When you turned the key did the starter engage and turn the engine?
If the starter motor did not turn on did you hear a click when you turned the key?
Did the engine try to fire or sputter?
Did the engine run shortly then die?

I'm not sure either... I think you've called the entire machine the mower, and the deck the mower. Is the lawn mower not starting, or does the lawn mower starting, but the deck doesn't turn on?
