poulan pro 25 hp tractor speed control lever

I've got a Poulan Pro PRGT25H48A model garden tractor that has a cracked trans shifter/speed control lever. Has anybody run across this failure? I am trying to figure out how to get the lever out of the frame for replacement or repair with a welder. Trying to attach a pic of the part. The break is a crack you can see just to the right of the large hole in the frame.

Thanks
Bill

The lever appears to be riveted on, you will destroy more things trying to get it off, any welder should be able to scab on a repair (using gas brazing) because the lever appears to be too thin for a good weld, and it may only weaken the metal further down the line. But I do see what appears to be a wear shim close to the crack, it will have to be removed or it will melt.

If I'm seeing the crack correctly, a small mig welder would fix it up just fine. Take it bay a machine shop and they should be able to weld that in a minute or so.
