Kohler Engine Won't Start
My lawnmower has a 17 HP Kohler Engine. It won't start, and backfires when cranked.

With that little anyone will have to guess.
Model # on the motor?
Checked for spark at the plugs?
Replaced the fuel filter?
If there's a fuel pump did you disconnect it at the carburetor and turn the key to see if it's pumping?
Removed and rebuilt the carburetor?
Been running nonethanol fuel or at least adding the additive to counter act the effects of it?

Twin cylinder? Single cylinder? Command? Courage? Magnum?

The courage and command engines are slightly prone to shear flywheel keys, which could cause your problem, depending on what you've already done. Tried a spark plug (s)?
