Honda engine

Have a GX 160 Honda 5.5 on a home made log splitter, has electronic ignition, oil cut off. Engine will run for 15 to 20 min. then stops, can get it started but only will run for about 5 min. Is it low on oil or an ignition problem? Can I change any of the electronics without takeing it all appart? Thanks

Try loosening the fuel cap, it may not be venting properly. Have a good one. Geo

"is it low on oil?" You tell us. Check the oil level.

If it's not the fuel cap you may have a coil going bad. It works when cold but when it gets hot it starts to fail. Next time it dies and won't start remove the spark plug, attach the plug wire to the plug and hold it against bare metal of the engine and have someone pull the starter cord. If you can't get the spark plug to spark it's likely the coil.

Thanks for the info, the oil level insn't marked on the oil dip stick, don't know where the low or full marks are!

Fill it to the top of the oil filler neck. The manual for your engine is available online.

Check the manual before adding oil, filling to the top of the oil filler neck will be way overfull on some. Have a good one. Geo
