Pressure washer cord just pulls out then winds back up

Hi,

Long time lurker, first time posting.

I Have Craftsman cx Series or csx 4000 psi gas unit a little over a year old with only about 6-7 hours on it. Briggs & Stratton 2100 engine.

Haven't used it for a few months. Always starts on the first pull and runs great.

Went to start it cord pulled out half way felt like it might start. It had resistance like normal when pulling (is that from compression), then nothing.

The cord no just pulls out and winds back in. No pressure like it is trying to start the engine?

What the heck would cause that?

Could be several things.
A simple check, remove the spark plug and see if the piston is moving up and down.
If not then the dogs in the recoil starter are stuck.

Remove the shroud that contains the pull cord and you'll have better access to the assembly from the bottom side. You'll just have to look and see why the dogs might not be engaging. There could be dirt, insect nests or other debris holding them in place.

Thanks!

I saw a couple older videos earlier that made it appear that things were not just accessible under the shroud and I did not want to create a bigger headache for myself.

Anyway I found out that I am still under warranty so I'm going to let Sears fix it.
