Poulan Pro 42" riding lawn mower belt interchange

I wanted to let anyone that has a 42" Poulan Pro 17 hp Briggs and Stratton Intek engine, model PPR17H42ST, of what other belts interchange. I bought the belt from Snapper that was "supposed" to fit. It was about 8" too long! So I took the damaged belt into town and after some trial and error I found the perfect fit. It is:
Or 4L880
Those are all the same belt! Just different reference numbers depending on the manufacturer!

Also the center of the blade is a star fitting. I purchased a two pack of MTD 21" 3-n-1 blades and what a difference! BTW I was mowing 2.5 acre level field.

I strongly recommend NOT using the mtd blades. The star pattern is not the same and you WILL ruin your mandrels.

The proper belt is a 144200. It is a 88 inch X 1/2 inch kevlar belt. Those other belts are not the same belt. They may fit, but a regular L488 belt is not kevlar and will not last as long. You will soon find these things out if you are mowing a 2.5 acre field with that mower.
