Craftsman DYT 4000 lawn tractor engine dies

I have a Craftsman DYT4000 lawn tractor Model #917273663. I accidentally ran over a cable which stalled the mower. I removed the cable and checked the mower deck for free movement. Engine starts, but stalls when brake pedal is released, even very slowly. I removed the mower deck and the engine still dies when brake/clutch is released. Any suggestions?

Check the motion drive belt for something keeping it from turning. Tangled or wadded in pulleys, not tracking in all pulleys.
For some reason the drive belt is not functioning correctly.

Sounds to me like the seat switch. Try pushing the connector tighter onto the switch.

Thanks cheese for the idea of looking at the seat switch. It was damaged. Replaced and all is well. Thanks.

I'll wager that it was still related to running over that cable . . . . you probably engaged in some very unusual acrobatics in dis-mounting when that happened.
