My mower goes in reverse but not forward. The pedal is mushy or sticky when I push it. It does not return to proper position. I lifted the seat and see where the pedal moves the mechanism is there a screw that needs adjusting?

Is the piece rotating on the transmission? I might start by blowing compressed air all around that mechanism on the transmission to get dirt and grass cleared out and spray the area with some PBlaster or other lubricant to see if the pedal will return to center on it's own. If there is too much stuff caked in there, it might not be allowing much range of travel. Also check to see if the actual shaft going into the transmission is turning, or is it just the linkage connected to it. It could have come loose from the shaft.
