24 HP Briggs Stratton

What could be causing voltage regulator to short out???

You're putting new ones on and they short out?

24HP Briggs Stratton

Put a used one back on it & it lasted for 1 mowing & it burned out.

Are you using a dead battery and mowing with it?

It is a cub cadet with electric pto, has to have fully charged battery in order to operate.

So I'm assuming this means you have a good battery? I mean, if you're charging the battery before using it because it's dead every time... that would be good to know here. Feels like I'm pulling teeth.

Yes, charging battery before every time I mow. As of now have regulator unhooked, because it runs battery down & the wiring harness is hot to touch.

How old is the battery? There should be a code on a small round sticker that has a letter and number, like G2 or H1 or something similar.

How about the possibility the battery has been reversed some time and blown the diodes in voltage regulator?

Have seen that happen a few times in my career.
