hard shifting

I have a 2003 craftsman riding mower, recently it has been very hard to shift. Today I couldn't get it to shift at all. I asked a service tech that came to do the spring tune up about how I could resolve this problem and he told me that I would have get a whole new trans axle. any suggestions?

Look at the piece that rotates on top of the transmission when you shift it. Get a can of PBlaster and spray that spot right where it enters into the transmission while shifting through the gears. Keep spraying and working the shifter and it will free up nice and easy.
