1997 Wheelhorse 312 won't start

I've bypassed seat switch and didn't help. Turned key on and jumped solenoid and it started but when I engage pto the engines shuts down. Any help would be appreciated.

How did you bypass the seat switch? You've probably got a problem in the safety circuit somewhere. You may have a loose connection at the seat safety switch or a broken wire somewhere.

What happens if you let your foot off the clutch pedal? Does it shut down then too?

I tried it open (unplugging it) and closed with a jumper. Was hoping to go right to the faulty switch instead of all of them,to save some time. Guess I've got to start tearing it down(switches mostly buried. Headed on vacation so will be a wk or 2 before I get back to it. The kid will be borrowing my husqvarna while I'm gone which isn't as bullet proof as the toro lol.

It does not. I can start it jumping the solenoid and drive it around. Just can't engage pto. That's why I was thinking seat switch. But seems to be something else.

I don't know this mower at all, however, if it has a manual PTO, then there is likely a safety switch, if it is electric I would need to see a diagram....but could be the PTO switch itself.

This is also assuming that you can only jump start it with the brake and seat switch working.

If you let off the clutch with it running and then get off the seat, does it stay running?
