JD 400 lawn tractor

JD 400 lawn tractor

Having issues with restarting tractor after running for hrs of use. runs fine until you turn it off then will not restart. you can hear it click then nothing. any ideas? thanks

All it takes is one loose or corroded connection.
Once it cools down does it start OK?

It could be hot starter windings. That happens in trucks sometimes. Or it could be the battery after it heats up with use. Try jumping it with a slave battery. If nothing jump the hot cable to the starter and ground to the motor.

It sounds like the solenoid is working with the "clicking". Contacts can get corroded and cable ends need attention so if the starter works with the direct jump go through the cable ends.
