Black and Decker GH600 Spool cap and Spool Keep Popping Off

Hey, everyone. I'm new to the forum so you may have to bare with me. Apologies.

I have a B&D GH600 that has worked great for at least the last 2 seasons. All of the sudden today it started spitting line and then immediately popping off the spool cap and spool. Everything *seems* to be in order, so I'm at a loss. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

UPDATE: It seems like the spool cap can be pulled right off without depressing the tabs. Could that be the sole problem, or is it just a jumping off problem before replacing other parts?

Install the cap and try to hand pull it off, what happens?
Pops off, then try bending the tabs out to see if it locks.

Check for dirt and debris caked up in the cap and under the spool in the cup area.

Fuel Starvation Problem

I have a Simplicity Landlord tractor with a Briggs Vanguard V-twin 16 HP engine with 600 hours on it. The gas tank is under the seat. There’s a vacuum-pulse fuel pump that mounts on the engine. I’ve been having a marginal fuel delivery issue. The engine starts up and runs fine for maybe 30 or 40 minutes. Then it runs out of fuel—the fuel filter empties out. If I let the tractor sit for a while then it will start right up again. If I set the engine speed to low right after it starves out and crank the engine it’s likely to draw enough fuel to get it running. If I then let it idle for a while the fuel filter tends to fill back up. If I disconnect the fuel line where it enters the fuel pump (after the filter) and lower the hose end fuel runs back into the filter. I’ve replaced the fuel filter with an oversized Fram filter, replaced the fuel pump (that seemed to delay the onset of the problem somewhat but didn’t fix it), and replaced the very short rubber hose that connects the valve cover to the pulse port on the pump (it was distorted by heat). I’ve removed the metal fuel pick-up tube from the tank and blown through it both ways. I’ve disconnected the hoses that connect the fuel pick-up tube to the fuel filter and the fuel filter to the fuel pump and blown through them—no problem. The hoses are not dry/cracked or heat distorted. I’ve removed the fuel filler cap with the built-in gauge. The problem persists. I’ve hooked everything back up except the hose that goes into the carbs, put a length of rubber hose onto the pulse port of the fuel pump and sucked/blown through it. Plenty of gas squirts out of the fuel pump. I’m running out of things to check or replace. I’m beginning to wonder if the fuel pump is not getting the right vacuum/pressure pulses. Briggs engine, used twice, won't start

I hope there's someone here that can help! I bought a Briggs & Stratton power washer in spring 2014 and used it twice (yep, just twice) last year with no problems. I went to fire it up this spring and it doesn't want to start. Here's what I've done: Pulled the plug and checked for spark. There is one. Checked to be sure the choke is working properly. It's one of these new-fangled automatic things, but it appears to be working. Sprayed starter fluid into air intake. The motor will run for a second when I do this. That tells me the problem might be fuel supply. It also tells me that the pump is ok and not likely part of the problem, because when I do this and have the sprayer spraying, the water pressure goes up. I didn't winterize it, but it was in a heated garage. Since the problem might be fuel supply, I swapped out the fuel (which was last year's), but that didn't help. Working towards the engine, I then pulled the carb to check it out. It was clean, spare a few pieces of white plastic in the bottom of the bowl that looked like maybe they were manufacturing leftovers from the float. Otherwise the carb looked new. I blew out all the passages just for the heck of it and put it back together. That didn't help either. So now I'm kind of stuck...I'm not great with small engines, but I haven't really had to do anything to them ever. The engine model is a 121R 02 0111 F1, and the power washer model (if that matters) is 020554. It's a Briggs & Stratton brand power washer bought at Menards in May of 2014. Thanks! GabeRead More
