craftsman lawn tractor 2000

hi,
i have a craftsman 2000 with a B&S 17.5 or 18hp? engine # 31H777-605-E2 & in the process of replacing the cylinder head gasket, the push rods were removed. anyway, i noticed that one is steel & the other seems to be aluminum. from installation view, one goes on top & one goes on the bottom. trouble is, i don't know which one goes where. i think the steel one was on top, but i want to know for sure. TIA

The exhaust rod (upper) is the steel one, as you suspected.

Holy Jesus, it took me all day yesterday & part of this morning to get back in here!

anyway, I was able to find the info. needed on youtube.

thank you, cheese, I was hoping that you were still here. I used to come to this forum a few years ago & had to make a new account because I couldn't find or get my old account. I thought it was JG24Fan, but it didn't work. then I was unable to get back in & respond to my question!!! it seems as though this site is much harder than I remember it being.

Odd... I haven't noticed anything different. Maybe just a temporary hiccup. Glad you got it figured out though.
