I read previous posts about the fuel not getting to carb. and bypassed the fuel pump.Fuel is flowing at carb end but engine won't start and If i pour gas into the carb it starts right up for a few seconds. Does it need the fuel pump inline to get sufficiant gas to start. Trying to figure out if its the pump or a problem inside the carb.

That would be inside the carb. Providing a flow of fuel to the inlet of the carburetor will take care of the pump's role. If you have float bowl take it off and see if fuel comes into the bowl when you hook up the fuel source. If it does you have a blockage else where and you'll need to take the whole thing apart and clean it.
