Craftsman Briggs and Stratton

Hey all
I have a Craftsman Briggs and Stratton 917.274640 DYT 4000
So i rebuilt this engine
buffed up crankshaft, replaced bearing seals on the block.
Got new seals, put it all together,
replaced fuel filter and new spark plug
The fly wheels spins nice by hand, not like before.
Filled it up with oil, connected all wireing back.

Now im facing an issue, when i try to start, it spins but wont take, i know gas is going through, i can see it spitting into the carb.
but, when i disconnect spark plug wire, same issue happens, so , how do i go from this?

I put it on a youtube clip to watch,

Checked to see if there spark?
I did not see where you rebuilt or replaced the carb.
Sure the floats not leaking by or stuck, may be why your seeing fuel running out.

If you're getting a compression feed back into the carb and blowing gas back towards the end you probably have the intake valve open on compression. If you took it all apart did you get the valve timing set correctly?

I had to replace the camshaft arm connector, it broke
I replaced it back, and also cleaned out the carb before putting it back into place
The part i may stuck at is the timing.
I put the alternator ring as it was back onto the case, that has 4 screws.
The part that im not sure if it matters was, when putting the flywheel back on with the key-flywheel, does it have to be positioned in a certain way? does the valves need to be open or closed when putting flywheel back on?

I ran the spark plug test, its a blue spark that comes through, new spark plug.

Yes, i do hear compression feedback in the carb and it gets smokey in there too.
Nothing leaking around, i know gas is getting in since i can see it, in the carb.

Its possible ,my timing is off some where.

Do anything topside; like involving valves or timing ?

When i put back together, i had aligned the dot on the link counterweight with the dot on the "gear timing"
I had removed valves too, to clean out debris.
I had put in a new gasket for rocker cover as well.
I gauged the rocker valves as well, unless i did that part wrong

I can double check it tho, if someone can give me the gauge for the top and bottom valves?

Set them at .005" with the engine 1/4" past TDC. If you don't have the engine at 1/4" past TDC when you set the valves it won't work. Not sure if you have the camshaft timed with the crankshaft or not, but if you aligned the dots you probably did.

.005 works for both, but it sounds like the timing is off on the valve cam. Does it backfire through the carburetor? From the video it's not getting locked up on compression when the starter spins it over.

If everything else is OK the flywheel only goes on to align with the key. There's no other considerations except clean the bore of the flywheel and the crankshaft, align to the key and tighten the crank nut.
