Jumper box to start an electric start generator

I have an electric start portable generator that can start either recoil or with a 12v lawn tractor style battery.

Is there any reason I shouldn't be able to use a portable automotive jumper pack, hook the leads up to the battery leads for the generator, and safely start the generator electrically?

There is no reason that will not work.
Safest way is to connect the positive first, then to connect the ground to metal away from the battery.

Great, thanks!

It's what I figured, but sometimes I think I may think I have a good idea, but I overlook something important and it screws things up terribly. Or so my boss tells me.
