Toro walk-behind lawnmower one drive wheel not working

Toro model 20066. Found left wheel cover broken, a lot of grass and dirt had accumulated inside the wheel/gear assembly. Replaced cover and wheel.

Real wheels lifted off ground, left wheel spins, but no torque, I can easily stop it with my finger. Right wheel seems fine, it has plenty of drive torque.

Does this mean the transmission is shot? Is it worth taking the transmission apart to see if it can be repaired?

Toro Wheel Issue

Did you actually buy a new wheel? Or just replace with the old one? Alot of time the plastic gears inside the plastic tires on the Toro will start to wear and strip...metal gear working on a plastic gear is a breakdown waiting to happen. It happens a lot on Toro's, Troybuilt, and Craftsman...very poor design due to trying to get by as cheap as possible on the manufacturers end.
And if it is the transmission, order a new one, they are all plastic gears inside and not worth wasting your time on....

Thanks Bullseye. Yes, I bought a new wheel/gear assembly.

The new transmission looks to be about $65, and a lot of my time, so I am considering replacing the mower altogether.
