Question Craftsman riding lawn mower making buzzing noise when trying to turn on

I have a Craftsman 21 hp riding lawnmower. Model number 917. 288525. I used it a few of weeks ago and it worked fine. I went to use it the other day and it is no longer wanting to start. When I turn the key I hear a click followed by a buzzing noise. The fly wheel doesnt start to move. I checked the battery and according to my multimeter it had 12.54V. I have cleaned the terminals as well as the spark plug with no results. Does anyone have any advice for what I should look at next?

Welcome. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery, "-", and check that the cables at the starter are clean and snug. Also follow the negative cable to the frame or wherever it is connected to the machine, and do likewise. See if that works, but it's more likely the battery, and you cannot ascertain a good battery with a volt meter. Take the battery to your local auto parts store or lawn equipment dealer, and ask them to load test it.

Agreed, you either have a bad connection or a bad battery.

Possible that the starter drive gear is jammed in the flywheel. Can you turn the engine by hand?
