Stihl trimmer won't prime

The 2012 posts all seemed to suggest a new carb was needed if the prime bulb did not work. I had the problem that the prime bulb would not fill despite repeated attempts. I removed the air cleaner housing (a tight fit for a 1/4 drive 8mm socket) then removed the two gas lines from the carb. WARNING! after repeated pumping there may be pressure in the line and care must be taken to avoid a face full of gas - I learned the hard way. I then took a syringe and two different sizes of surgical tubing to alternately blow and suck the lines as well as the brass carb lines. Put everything back together and all is good. Hope this helps others avoid an expensive repair

It helps if you crack open gas cap to relieve the pressure. Sometimes the check valves are damaged when people clean them, then you need a new carb. Glad you got yours back running.
