Craftsman rider

I have a lt1000 with a 17.5 I/C. Starts fine, runs up to full speed and when I engage the blades the RPM's go way down. I do notice the throttle mechanism opens all the way but the RPM's stay down.when I shut the blades off the govener kicks back in and I can rev the motor.

I suppose you've already checked the underside of the Deck for solidified grass clippings that could be clogging the blades ?

If you can't find anything bogging the mower down next I would check the governor and it's linkage.

Bad spindle?
Disconnect the blade belt, lift the front of the mower and spin the mower blades, they should spin freely and not make any noise.

Also may not have enough fuel, takes more fuel under load than idling.
