Only starts when ignition wire is disconnected
Hi,
Craftsman 6.5 Horsepower self propelled Lawn Mower only starts when ignition coil / magneto green wire is disconnected - in fact it starts with one pull. Safety cable moves the mechanism on the end when I press the handle bar. What trouble shooting should I do next?
Appreciate your time.
Thank you,

It would be the kill switch or the kill wire is grounded between the coil and switch. By kill switch, what you use to shut it off. If you have the "dead man" safety bar, that is connected to a grounding switch to kill the engine. That grounding switch isn't opening to run the engine.

Agreed, it has to be the wire shorted or the kill switch is not disengaging. Usually I find that the cable is pulling the switch, but not far enough. You can help it along by hand and see if it will move further, enough to let it start.

Thank you Gurus. Your diagnosed is correct, cable is not pulling far enough to disengage.
Is there a trick to shortening the cable?

I looped the wire through a key chain ring, it shortened it enough to open the circuit.
Thank you ALL. Help much appreciated.
