our lawnmower suddenly started blowing oil. Could it be from overfilling the oil? Mower still runs & cuts.

It sure could be burning oil if the crankcase is overfilled. This is only my assumption since you didn't state if the oil has been changed recently and too much oil added or too much oil was added to replenish any oil used.

If nothing was done and the engine just suddenly started the oil burning, it could be a cracked piston ring, restricted crankcase breather, engine age, wear and tear and or one of several other possibilities.
