briggs l head 14 hp coil question
I have an older craftsman rider with a 14 hp opposed twin l head engine. I can not find an engine number anywhere on the motor or covers...its just not there! The coil is pooched and I found one on the link below that appears identical but in the description it says 16 to 18 hp. Does anyone know if this will work on my engine? My engine has electronic ignition.
Thanks...Dan

If you already know for sure that your current Ignition Coil is faulty, I would pull it and see what part# is embossed in the plastic coating covering the winding. The Coil in you link even has a UPC Sticker glued to the winding. Buying the Coil in your link is a shot in the dark seeing as it says specifically that it is for 16-18 HP Briggs & Stratton, and yours is a 14 HP.
If there truly is no number on the engine (usually stamped into the shroud), then I'd call Sears and ask them for guidance. Maybe even supply an Owners Manual or a Parts Diagram for the engines that they used on that Model Mower, be it Briggs, Kohler or Tecumseh.
I wouldn't order anything until I was absolutely sure I had the correct engine identified. DB Electrical, in your link, says they'll help you make sure the coil is correct for your engine if you call them . . . . what did they say ?
