Onan generator help needed

Hi guys,
I have a question. I have a 1984 Onan emerald one 4000 W generator. As long as I supply 12 V to the coil it runs and generates 120 V. However if I take the 12 V jumper wire off it from the coil it quits. For some reason the coil is not being supplied with 12 V. I can run a separate 12 V switch directly to the coil, however I don't think that's good for the coil. Can any of you owning gurus tell me what wire goes to the coil to feed it 12 V? This has been so dang frustrating I'm ready to give up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.

It's more than just a wire connected to 12v. That power comes from the control board.

To supply any wiring help... a model number would be needed.
