Simplicity tractor Drive Line and universal Joints

While in the process of repairing an oil leak in the hydro aroun d the input shaft, I discovered that the female splined yoke that attaches to the hydro input shaft had worn out several grooves in the female part making it flop around. (Simplicity model; 1692135 Sunstar. I think I have found a replacement yoke from a weezler supplier to replace it, but this will require removing the universal joint from the old yoke. Since the universal joint is still ok, I have a feeling that the only way to do this is to replace the universal joint too. Since all the Utube videos are showing automotive style ujoints, and the ones I have seem to have a cap that is not flush with the yoke, but separate from it and above the flanges, I am not sure how to safely remove the cap. I am also not sure if there are snap rings under the cap, or on the inside of the yoke. Does anyone have any experience with these universals?

Sorry, I don't. Usually if there is a clip, it will be in the bore of the yoke over the end of the UV joint cap or snapped over the outer diameter of the UV joint cap just under the edges of the bore of the yoke that it fits in. If you see neither, I would begin pressing it out and see what happens. Sometimes the yoke has a small peened in spot to keep the caps in place.

I have a guy who does this as a side busness, and I have new everything ordered for him to install for me when It gets here. I will be watching him do it all, so I will post back this next phase of my ongoing education....Thanks again for the reply!

When the new parts arrived it became apparent that the universal joint was in fact the type that has an internal snap ring, nothing unusual about it, just covered with 20 years of packed grease and dirt hiding it from me. I should have everything pressed in and ready to install back in the tractor next week.
