Tractor stalls when accelerating

I was mowing the lawn for about 10mins when suddenly the tractor backfired and stalled. I restarted but it would only stay idling with the choke on full. As soon as I accelerate, it stalls.
left it 10 mins. Started again, worked fine for 5 mins then stalled. Now it just idles with choke on full again.
Any ideas what this could be? I thought the fuel filter maybe but it seems clear.
If it's the carb then why did it run fine for 10mins at first?

Check the fuel cap it may not be venting properly, try running it with the cap loose. Have a good one. Geo

Only running with the choke on is a good sign of a carburetor problem. You may have gotten a piece of trash in a jet or orifice in the carburetor.

Yes, you're using the Choke to restrict the amount of air in the air/fuel mixture . . . . indicating that an inadequate fuel supply is available for normal operation. Something is restricting the flow of fuel.

Make sure that your carburetor is tight to the engine and that your air cleaner is intact and clean. Otherwise agree with needing to clean and inspect the carburetor.

Something either is blocking the fuel flow through the fuel line into the carb bowl or something has gotten into the carb bowl and is blocking the main jet.
