Kohler M8 fuel pump

Hi All, anyone know how to test a mechinal fuel pump on this engine? The gas tank on this system is about 12” below the fuel pump, not sure if this pump is capable of lifting fuel this high, also there is some thought of installing an electric fuel pump, does that get powered from the Acc. side of the ignition switch if we decide to take that route.
Thoughts!

Just take the fuel line off at the carburetor and see if you get fuel spurts when the engine turns over.

If you're working with an electric retro fit the accessory side of the switch is where you can get the switching power to run it, but you may want to use a relay for the pump. Those don't take a lot of amps, but it may be more than the switch could handle. Putting a relay between the switch and pump would take care of that.

Thanks mar obj, actually that was my next step, I will that a try tomorrow, don’t really want to go the electric route if I can avoid it.
