How can I rotate the pull cord on my 5 hp B&S pressure washer engine from facing the side to facing the rear?

There should be two screws holding that plastic grill on, maybe one screw and a tab. Remove that they you will see the 3 nuts and bushings that hold the recoil and gas tank on. Remove the nuts and you can position it 3 ways....IIRC.

I don't have one like it here at the shop to check.

Thanks. The grill is held on by a latch at the front and two tabs at the rear. It looks to me like the recoil mechanism is riveted to the gas tank shroud. I am not real keen on drilling out the rivets for fear of making the holes oversized so that new rivets would not hold. Thanks again.

Use a large drill bit and just drill till you are at the top of the rivet shaft and you can knock the head off the rivet and punch it the rest of the way out, it would be easier if you removed the shroud from the engine because the parts of the rivets that get punched through are going to be hard to get out of the shroud. I think there are 2 7/16" bolts on the front and 2 on the back, remove them and it slides straight up. Have a good one. Geo

If its riveted briggs has instructions for removing and replacing with screw/nut. You should use a drill bit the same size as the shank of the rivet. Start with 1/8" and work up to 3/16 if needed until the head will spin off or you can rock it with a small punch.

You will need to peel the gas tank back as well and remove the dipstick to get the shroud off.
